Aimane Soidihane

I am presently a Master’s student in Genetics, Genomics, Epigenetics, and Evolution (GenE2) at the University of Paris Saclay, motivated by a profound interest in bioinformatics and the utilization of data analysis to address intricate inquiries in the Life Sciences.  As part of my internship at LAGE– Genoscope and LBGB – Genoscope, co-supervised by Morgan Gaïa and Yann Dussert, I am specializing in the detection, annotation, and identification of giant viruses (Nucleocytoviricota or NCLDVs). My objectives are to:

– Develop and implement bioinformatic pipelines to extract viral signals from high-throughput metagenomic data from the AtlaSea project using tools such as VirSorter2 and geNomad.

– Conduct functional annotation of NCLDV genomes to identify core genes and Auxiliary Metabolic Genes (AMGs), providing insights into how these viruses manipulate host cellular processes.

– Reconstruct evolutionary lineages through phylogenomic analysis, utilizing conserved marker genes to place novel viral sequences within the expanding diversity of the Nucleocytoviricota.

Through this work, I aim to bridge the gap between raw sequencing data and a deeper understanding of the ecological impact and evolutionary history of giant viruses in environmental ecosystems »
