Paul Frémont studies the large scale biogeography of plankton communities and its evolution in response to climate change. He uses metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data from the Tara Oceans consortium coupled with models of ocean biogeochemistry evolution by 2100 (Earth System Models) to study the response of plankton communities to climate change. He also focuses on acclimation patterns of plankton communities to large scale environmental gradients at the gene metatranscriptomic level. Finally, he develops mechanistic models of phytoplankton ecology to study their evolution in a changing climate.
